Allana, thank you for this list of resources! I’ve read Bird by Bird and On Writing, I think next will be the Save the Cat one! I’ve just finished the first rough draft of my testimony story (how God saved me out of the pit of a mental health breakdown). Now I’m revising that before seeking some developmental help. Glad to have your information.
I'm glad you found this post insightful, Jen! Save the Cat was such a good read. I highly recommend it, especially if you want to focus on story structure. :) I hope The Gentle Editor will continue to be instructive for you! If you have any questions or want to bounce ideas off someone, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Hey Allana, I appreciate your book recommendations and how concise this list is. I find that it's easy to get lost in the multitude of craft books available (not to mention the literal arts and crafts books) so lists like this help. One that I've started picking away at is "The Anatomy of Story" by John Truby, which is intended for screenwriters but gives a useful big picture overview for any storytelling venture.
I should also clarify that and say that it is a general storytelling book but the author does screenwriting so it naturally gravitates towards that kind of approach (rather than being a book specifically geared for only screenwriters).

Thank you, Allana.
Your website is beautiful!
Thank you, Órla! That is very kind. I’ve spent a year and half shaping my messy blog into an aesthetically pleasing homepage.
You're welcome, Allana.
Well, you did a very nice job in making it aesthetically pleasing. :)
