Hello, everyone!
First, I’d like to extend an extra special welcome to those who subscribed in response to my latest Note.
Trust me, the irony of this Note gaining greater-than-usual traction is not lost on me:
If you found me through this, I’m so honoured that you’re here, and I hope my little newsletter will help you find light in the darkness, beauty in the brokenness, and joy in the sorrow.
Second, I have two exciting announcements to share with you all:
1) Meet Calla Press Publishing’s new Senior Editor!
I’m thrilled to announce that as of May 1, 2025, I have officially stepped into the role of Senior Editor for
.In this new role, I will continue to provide developmental and line editing services, but I will also give leadership to our wonderful team of editors by overseeing editorial assignments, answering editing-related questions, and organizing quarterly staff training sessions.
I’ve grown so much as an editor during my time at Calla Press, and I’m honoured by this opportunity to give more oversight to our editorial team.
P.S. Check out Calla Press Publishing’s website for all our latest releases!
2) West Coast, here I come!
This weekend, I’m flying to British Columbia to visit my wonderful brother and sister-in-law for a week.
It’s been five years since I left my West Coast graduate program for other academic pursuits, and I haven’t set foot on B.C. soil since.

I’m counting down the days until my flight. It will be such a blessing to spend quality time with my family, revisit some old haunts, and enjoy new adventures on Canada’s gorgeous West Coast.
But what does all this mean for you?
What to expect from Daughter of the King in June
As Uncle Ben so poignantly reminded us, “With great power comes great responsibility.”
Stepping into my new role as Senior Editor for Calla Press Publishing is a huge honour, but it also brings with it more responsibilities and a greater time commitment.
Between my new position at Calla Press and the recent launch of The Gentle Editor, I’ve realized that—for the next month or so, while I adjust to this transition—I won’t be able to publish a Daughter of the King essay *every* single Monday and a bi-weekly Gentle Editor writing lesson.
So, rather than serving you a half-baked piece of writing purely for the sake of churning out content, I’m going to alternate my Daughter of the King and Gentle Editor schedules so you receive one premium, high-quality essay every single week.
Here’s our schedule for the rest of May & June:
Wednesday, May 21st: “Write for an Audience of 1” (The Gentle Editor)
Monday, May 26th: “Daughter of the King: Special Edition” (a compilation of my published articles for you to browse while I’m out of the office)
**June 1st - 7th: Quiet Week** (no essays this week because I’ll just be getting back into the office and will need time to brainstorm!)
Wednesday, June 11th: “The Golden Rule of Writing” (The Gentle Editor)
Monday, June 16th: Daughter of the King (Father’s Day essay)
Wednesday, June 25th: “1 + 1 = 1/2” (The Gentle Editor)
Monday, June 30th: Daughter of the King (essay TBD)
What would you like to read more of?
Since I’ll be more selective with my Daughter of the King essays this spring, I want to ensure that I’m giving you what you love most.
So, tell me, what do you prefer?
a) Devotionals & Bible study lessons (think The God Who Sees My Tears and Mary of Bethany: The Woman Who Anointed a King)
b) Personal Essays & Poems (think Hello, My Name Is . . . and Good Girls Aren't Supposed To)
c) A mix of both!
Thank you!
You guys are seriously the best. I’m honoured to have a space in your inbox, and I hope this newsletter continues to bless you.
There are so many ideas tumbling around in my head right now . . .
Stay tuned!
Eeeeek, what wonderful news Allana! Congratulations on your new role as Senior Editor at Calla Press, that's amazing — I can only imagine how hard you've worked to get there, and that deserves to be celebrated 😍👏
Congrats and safe travels. Love all the bits of BC.
